Palmaria, Tino & Tinetto: the wild side of the Gulf

The islands opposite Portovenere are among the most scenic places to reach by rental boat. Cliffs, coves and clear water sit within a marine area where specific navigation rules must always be respected.

Where to stop

Palmaria changes character from one side to the other and not every area can be used in the same way. Discovery Boat explains the best options and current restrictions during the pre-departure briefing.

WHAT TO DO
  • Respect speed limits, buoys and regulated areas
  • Use designated moorings when available
  • Check wind and swell before rounding the exposed side
  • Keep a safe distance from the coast and swimmers
WHAT TO AVOID
  • Do not assume anchoring is allowed everywhere
  • Do not enter restricted or permit-only areas
  • Do not plan a normal free landing on Tino
  • Do not leave waste or discharge anything into the sea
Discovery Boat tip

In calm conditions, slow down and enjoy the contrast between Portovenere’s sheltered channel and Palmaria’s open-sea side.

Rules and safety

Local ordinances, swimming areas and navigation rules can change during the season. Always follow the Discovery Boat briefing and the official rules in force on the day.
